Tell us about your journey into the role of Digital Performance Manager at Seven West Media?
My career began approximately 15 years ago in communications, leading me to client-side marketing roles. While working client-side, I dealt with agencies and discovered a passion for the digital landscape and diverse client industries. This prompted my move to the agency world, where I’ve focused primarily on digital advertising for most of my career. My experience spans various areas, including social media, programmatic, analytics, and SEO, with a specialisation in Google Ads.
I joined Seven West Media to further pursue my passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of marketers. I’m excited by the challenge and the opportunity to share my knowledge and skills with others. The Digital Performance Manager role seemed like a great fit for me to expand. The team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive over the last 4 months.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
My main priority is ensuring the team delivers valuable business solutions for our clients.
As a digital specialist, my days blend strategic planning, hands-on campaign management, and in-depth analysis. I dedicate a significant portion of my time to directly managing campaigns. For Google Ads, this includes optimising bids, refining targeting, testing ad copy, and building new campaigns from the ground up based on keyword research and audience segmentation.
The social media work can involve developing ad copy and creative, running campaigns, and constantly monitoring engagement and performance to maximise reach and conversions.
SEO is another key focus, as well as doing keyword research, optimising website content, and tracking rankings to ensure strong search engine visibility – and that’s just a snapshot of my responsibilities!
Collaboration is crucial, so I work closely with other teams to maintain alignment with our overall digital strategy. I dedicate time each day to staying current with the ever-evolving digital landscape, including the latest trends, algorithm updates and best practices, which I also share with my team – I enjoy the constant learning and sharing of knowledge.
Who or what inspires you the most?
The closest people in my life.
If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
I would tell myself to enjoy the journey, not to take things too seriously and focus my energy where it matters. Life is too short to be stressed!
What is one of the most rewarding projects you’ve worked on at Seven West Media?
In my short time here, I’ve enjoyed developing and delivering training material to upskill the Account Managers in the metro and regional teams. The training focuses on Google Ads, SEO, and Meta, covering the fundamentals of each platform, its capabilities, and its opportunities. This foundational knowledge equips the teams with the tools and understanding they need to engage effectively with clients.
What are three things people might not know about you?
- I love red wine and pasta.
- In my past life (before marketing), I did a commercial cookery apprenticeship.
- I don’t like corporate jargon
What does leadership mean to you?
I’m a big advocate for fostering a healthy and supportive work culture and championing a shift in how we operate in the workplace, particularly in the advertising industry. We need to discuss mental health openly, destigmatise seeking help, and create an environment where people feel safe and supported. Flexible work models must be embraced, recognising that the traditional 9-to-5 isn’t always conducive to creativity or a balanced life.
We need to redefine success. It’s not about the number of hours clocked—it’s about the quality of the work, the impact we make, and the well-being of our teams.
I believe great leaders celebrate efficiency, strategic thinking, and the ability to disconnect and recharge. They understand that work-life balance is key to success, and they should celebrate those who prioritise it, setting a good example for everyone else. Looking after your people first is what great leadership means to me.
