Tell us about your journey into your role at Seven West Media?
I started at Seven West Media straight from university. I studied a Bachelor of Science (Marketing was my second major) at University of WA, followed by a Master’s Degree at University of Wollongong. My first role at SWM was as a coordinator in the Agency team within the Advertising department. I was very excited to be working for such a big company, that had opportunities in such a wide range of roles. During my three and a half years at SWM, I have learned so much and worked in several different roles that have led me to my current position of Senior Account Manager.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
No two days are the same, which is one of the things I love most about the role. Some days are spent at my desk managing multiple projects, whilst other days I am out seeing media agencies and clients that I work closely with.
Account service is a huge part of my role, I love helping my clients reach their business and campaign goals through connecting them with our platforms.
When I am in the office, I am juggling tasks like analysing campaign performance data, responding to briefs, and working on proactive ideas. There’s usually a mix of problem-solving and creative thinking which is another favourite part of my role.
Who or what inspires you the most?
My parents are my biggest source of inspiration. Their support, work ethic, and resilience are all things that I aspire to. They have shown me the importance of kindness, determination, and the value of hard work – despite any obstacles. They have made huge sacrifices and the way they lead with love and humility inspires me to work hard and be the best version of myself.
What is one of the most rewarding projects you’ve worked on at Seven West Media?
Woodside partnered with SWM this year where we planned and implemented a cross-platform campaign, covering significant milestones for them such as their 70th birthday and the continuation of the Scarborough Energy Project.
The campaign ran across an array of our mastheads and platforms, including video, print, display, and content. There were many moving parts across the partnership, and as the project manager there were times where this was challenging, but it was even more rewarding once we achieved everything required and delivered excellent results for the client.
If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to stop worrying so much about things outside of my control. I spent a lot of time stressing over situations, outcomes, and other people’s opinions, when the reality is there’s so little we can control, we can only control how we react. The energy spent on worrying could be better used on growing and learning.
What does leadership mean to you?
To me, a good leader is empowering – helping others recognise their potential and giving them the tools, support, and confidence to succeed. They motivate others to take ownership of their own growth. Fostering an environment where people feel valued, encouraged to share their ideas, and are given the opportunity to learn and progress.
What are three things people may not know about you?
- I lived in Wollongong for 2 years whilst studying my Masters in Marketing. While there, I saw plenty of native wildlife, such as echidnas, kangaroos and even a baboon!
- Billy Joel is my favourite music artist
- I’m the annoying friend at a restaurant – with a recent shellfish allergy diagnosis (despite absolutely loving it) and there being no amount of money you could pay me to eat an egg.
